Description

Introduction The Native Vegetation Conservation Act 1998 was introduced in New South Wales (NSW) on 1 January 1998 to protect the native woodland and native grassland of the state. The Act was designed to meet growing community concern for the condition of the state's native woodland and grassland. Its objectives were to prevent inappropriate clearing, to manage the remaining native vegetation sustainably, to prevent further economic loss, to streamline the administration of native vegetation management, and to encourage landholder and community involvement in vegetation management (NSW Department of Land and Water Conservation 1998).
